How do appetite suppressants work?

Appetite suppressants works by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite. The hypothalamus is the region of the brain that controls the autonomic nervous system, regulating sleep cycles, body temperature, appetite, and more.

Appetite suppressants are not intended to be a substitute for a healthy diet or exercise. For best results, it should be used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and regular physical activity. In addition, any modifications in your diet, activity level, and behavior will need to be developed and continued for a long term in order to continue losing weight and prevent it from returning.

As a patient, you will come to our Orange County office for an initial consultation and fill out a quick questionnaire. Your doctor will then perform a brief physical and review of your medical history and eating patterns or problems.

Body Composition Analysis

Body Composition Analysis

It’s important to know more than just your body weight but also what is going on inside your body by categorizing weight into muscle mass, water, and body fat. By assessing Body Composition and Percent Body Fat, It helps you to see the effectiveness of your treatment program – especially relevant if obesity-related medication is part of the program.

What Is Body Composition?

Body composition is the term used to describe the different components that, when taken together, make up a person’s body weight. The human body is composed of a variety of different tissue types including lean tissues (muscle, bone, and organs) that are metabolically active, and fat (adipose) tissue that is not.

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

It is best to take phentermine on an empty stomach before breakfast, or at least 10 to 14 hours before bedtime. Do not take more phentermine for an increased effect. Taking too much of this medication can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Phentermine should be taken only for a short time, such as a few weeks.
Taking high doses of phentermine over long periods of time can cause severe skin problems, sleep problems (insomnia), personality changes, and feeling hyperactive or irritable.

Stop taking phentermine if you have increased hunger or if you otherwise think the medication is not working properly.

You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using phentermine after a long period of use. Do not stop using the medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.

Do not take phentermine in the evening because it may cause sleep problems (insomnia).

Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Phentermine is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription.

Phentermine should only be used under the expert guidance of one of our highly experienced doctors. Our Orange County weight loss doctors will give you detailed information on how and when the drug should be used. Using this without consulting our doctors could prove to be a big mistake. While using Phentermine, your primary focus should be on making sure that you remain healthy without losing too much weight. An overdose of the drug can cause damage to your health and that is why we recommend a consultation session with our doctor before beginning your course at our weight loss clinic.

During your course, you need to ensure that you do regular exercises and consume a low-calorie diet to make sure that the drug has maximum effect on tackling your weight. Doing so will ensure that you are also burning fat regularly while helping your body get used to healthy food. The Phentermine program has an expiry date which means that it should only be used for a limited period of time. The BIG REASON behind this is that excess use of the drug can lead to a sever addiction and can cause long term side effects.

If you’re looking for ways to support your current weight loss methods, or simply want to get started with losing weight We Will Help.

You only pay a consultation fee if you are prescribed medication.

Phentermine was introduced in the early 1950’s as an effective anti-obesity drug. Since its introduction, Phentermine was able to dominate the market for diet pills which according to studiesPhentermine History could reached as high as 50% of all weight loss prescriptions in the US. It received the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration in 1959 as an appetite suppressant intended for the treatment of obesity but only for short term treatments.

The first kind of Phentermine distributed in the US was the Phentermine resin but a new type was introduced in the early 1970’s, the Phentermine Hydrochloride. Phentermine becomes the standard pill for weight loss for more than 50 years.

Although Phentermine became popular as a weight loss medication, there were side effects associated with the use of the drug. Some side effects are well tolerated but other serious health risks can happen to people using Phentermine. People having high blood pressure, diabetes, allergies, overactive thyroid, glaucoma and pregnant women are not advised to take this drug because of possible complications. The recommendation of the US Food and Drug Administration for Phentermine use is only up to 12 weeks. It should also be accompanied by proper dieting and light to moderate exercises.

First we need to discuss how losing weight works:

Your body needs a certain amount of calories to keep itself going, and if you eat more than that amount, you will gain weight. If you consume fewer calories than you expend, you will lose weight. It’s that simple. Appetite Suppressants help you consume less calories, leading to short and long term weight loss.

The equation described above is complicated by the fact that your body doesn’t like you to eat less than it needs; it will think you are starving. If you go on a severely limited diet, your body will do a bunch of irritating things, such as: giving you hunger pangs, making you feel tired and sluggish, drawing the energy it needs from your muscle tissue as well as your fat, etc. Therefore, you shouldn’t try to lose weight by dieting alone.

A pound of fat represents approximately 3500 calories of stored energy. In order to lose a pound of fat, you have to use 3500 more calories than you consume. It’s best not to do this over the course of a day; you’d probably hurt yourself, and your body (knowing it, the uncooperative creature) would probably have some extreme reaction which did not involve you losing any actual weight. It’s better to spread this out over a week, so that you aim to exceed your caloric requirements by 3500 to 7000 calories per week, resulting in weight loss of one to two pounds per week. It’s not healthy to try to lose more than two pounds in a week, and if you do attempt to do so you’re unlikely to be successful. Not sure how much weight you need to lose? Check a BMI calculator and a body fat calculator. Make it your goal to hit the right BMI and body fat percentage for your height.

Let’s say you want to lose two pounds per week. To do so, you need to figure out how many calories a person of your age, sex, and weight usually needs in a day (see Eat Less), subtract 500 from that amount, and follow a diet that provides you with that many calories. For example, if you would ordinarily need 3000 calories in a day, you would follow a 2500 calorie per day diet. Then you figure out how much exercise a person of your weight would need to do to burn 500 calories per day (see Exercise), and you get off your lazy ass and do it. The result is simple. 500 fewer calories consumed plus (minus, actually, but we don’t want to confuse you) 500 more calories expended equals a 1000 calorie per day deficit, which, over the course of a week adds up to 7000 calories, or two pounds. Your mileage may vary, but there’s no getting around it. If your body is consuming fewer calories than it’s expending, something’s got to go (see God, “The First Law of Thermodynamics”).

Appetite Suppressants work by stimulating the hypothalamus gland(The hypothalamus is the region of the brain that controls the autonomic nervous system, regulating sleep cycles, body temperature, appetite, etc.) and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite, effectively decreasing the intake of calories necessary for you to lose weight.

Our brains are responsible for the normal functioning of our bodies. Parts of it produce various chemicals that help maintain bodily functions and keep the bodyís balance in check. These chemicals are known as neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are secreted by various glands in the brain and will affect the body depending on the concentration of these chemicals in the blood stream. Different chemicals as well as differing concentrations will have different effects. Such neurotransmitters are cathecolamines, norepinephrine, dopamine, epinephrine, serotonin, and GABA.

You do not have to be morbidly obese for this program. If you are overweight, have a history of obesity in your family, have weight-related problems such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, joint pain, back problems, you qualify for our program. Some patients need help maintaining weight loss. We know that an extra 10 lbs. can seem like 100. We also know that the last 10lbs. is the hardest to lose. We are here to help you lose it and keep it off.
